It is also the parent company of the Nitto Tire brand.

Key Historical Milestones

1945: Founding
Ryoichi Toyo founded the Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd. in Osaka, Japan. The initial focus was on producing tires to help rebuild Japan's transport infrastructure after World War II.

1950s: Expansion into Passenger Tires
The company began the production of passenger car tires as the domestic market shifted from commercial vehicles to private cars.

1966: Entry into the U.S. Market
Toyo established a physical presence in the United States by forming Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. This was a key strategic move for global expansion.

1970s: R&D and Radial Tires
Toyo invested heavily in research and development, establishing an R&D center in the late 1970s and focusing on the development of steel-belted radial tires, which were becoming the industry standard.

1979: Partnership with Nitto
Toyo entered a business and capital partnership with Nitto Tire Co., Ltd., eventually acquiring the company and leveraging the Nitto brand to cater to specific enthusiast segments of the market.

1980s: U.S. Manufacturing
To better serve the North American market, Toyo opened its first U.S. production facility in White, Georgia, a plant that eventually became crucial for both the Toyo and Nitto brands.

1990s: Motorsports and High Performance
Toyo solidified its reputation for performance and quality through involvement in various motorsports, particularly in off-road racing and drifting, which helped develop the reputation of its high-performance Proxes tire line.

2000s: Diversification and New Technologies
The company diversified into non-tire businesses, including anti-vibration rubber and polyurethanes, but tires remained its core focus. A significant innovation during this period was the A.T.O.M. production system (Advanced Tire Operation Module), a highly automated, energy-efficient manufacturing process that improved quality and consistency.

2010s-Present: Global Growth
Toyo continued its global expansion, opening a new manufacturing plant in Serbia in 2023 to serve the European market. The company remains committed to R&D and sustainability, aiming to provide unique and innovative tire solutions worldwide.
